Also dubbed as Åland Islands, it comprises of the main island Fasta Åland and the rest of the landmass is an archipelago in the eastern side consisting of numerous skerries and islands. The coast of Sweden lies in its neighborhood and is just separated by a distance of twenty five miles. Åland in Germanic tongue means “Land of the Water” and is aptly justified by its location. The art museums here are worth visit because of the interesting collection of local art and temporary exhibitions that portrays the history of the islands from pre-historic times to the recent days. Pommern, the four-mastered sailing ship anchored just behind the town’s Maritime Museum speaks of history of the trade route navigated between England and Australia.
