Mariehamn is the capital of Aland Islands and is popular as “town of a thousand linden trees.” The founder of this pretty town is Tsar Alexander II in 1861.
The town was christened after the name of his wife, Tsarina Maria. Mariehamn is located on a slender peninsula and has two harbors. Here you must see the Art Museum and the Aland Museum.The Aland Museum tells the tale of Aland from prehistoric days to the present times. In the Art Museum you will get to see a stunning collection of artworks and temporary exhibitions are also held there.
Visit the Maritime museum there. Behind it you will see Pommern, the spectacular museum ship built in the Scottish city of Glasgow. Pommern is a four –mastered ship which once sailed through the trade route between Australia and England.
